Pictures from Qatar - January, 2005

We arrived in Doha on January 16 after travelling 27 hours door to door. Our door here is a villa in the Valley Rose compound in the Northwestern part of the city. Here is picture of the compound pool with the social room behind it. The tennis and basketball courts are behind the green screens across the road.

After three days we greatly enhanced our mobility by leasing a Mitsubishi Pajero io, which a small SUV with some four wheel drive off road capability.

Here is picture of Sue in her office at CMU Qatar.

We recently went to the Doha Zoo, a beautifully planted place that features the oryx, an endangered animal that is the symbol of Qatar. A young oryx suggests that the zoo has a breeding population. The zoo seems to have more ostriches than it knows what to do with, plus a magnificent peacock. One of the elephants shows the influence of an Asian culture with lots of henna tattoos.
