Short Course in Calculus (Math 211) — Spring 2019

Welcome to Math 211! This course will introduce you to the basic concepts from calculus. Whereas most calculus courses focus on computation, the emphasis of this course is on interpretation and communication of mathematical ideas.

Most administrative aspects of the course will be handled using Canvas.

Time and place. MoWeFr 10:00–10:50pm in Annenberg Hall G01.

Textbook. We will use Applied Calculus (5th edition) by Deborah Hughes-Hallett et al. (ISBN 978-1-118-17492-0).

Homework. Homework assignments will be due at the beginning of class on Fridays—they can be viewed on Canvas.

Examinations. There will be two midterm exams and a final exam.

  • Midterm 1. during class on Wednesday 21st April 2019.
  • Midterm 2. during class on Wednesday 15th May 2019.
  • Final. 3:00–5:00pm on Tuesday 11th June 2019.

Blog assignment. During the course, each student will write a blog post and comment on classmates' posts. Update: The blog is here.
