"Modeling flows of nematic liquid crystals using a kinetic theory approach"

Abstract

I will discuss ways to model flows of nemtic liquid crystalline polymers using kinetic theories. I will address how to incorporate the chirality into the kinetic theory and the derivation of a self-consistent hydrodynamic theory that obeys the second law of thermodynamics. I will then show the connection with the well-known Ericksen-Leslie theory through a perturbation scheme and finally demonstrate some results in shear flows.
