Coupling the heat equation with the Gilbert equation

Abstract

In standard micromagnetics, the specific magnetization is subject to the saturation constraint, which reflects the assumption that in each point of body under study the local temperature field be well below the Curie point. There exist, however, interesting evolution processes, some of them of technological importance, where temperature instantaneously rises above the Curie point in a very small portion of the body. Modeling of these processes requires a suitable ``nonisothermal'' extension of micromagnetics. In this talk I will illustrate how to produce such an extension using standard tools from Continuum Thermomechanics. I will discuss some constitutive issues, as well as some mathematical questions posed by the theory.
