Professor Chester Spatt (Ph. D., University of Pennsylvania 1979) is a specialist in financial economics with broad interests in financial markets. He is currently engaged in several major research thrusts exploring (a) capital gains taxation, tax-deferred investing and asset allocation, (b) equilibrium models of commodity forward pricing and cross-commodity spreads and (c) studies of market design and market dynamics in market microstructure and also has extensively studied (d) fixed-income (especially mortgage) pricing and contracting. He has served as Executive Editor and one of the founding Editors of the Review of Financial Studies, President and a member of the Founding Committee of the Society for Financial Studies, and President of the Western Finance Association. He is currently an associate editor of several finance journals and a member of the Economic Advisory Board of the National Association of Securities Dealers.
