Course Description:

During the first part of the course we will learn the tools that will be needed for the rest of the course. We will start with some linear algebra, and learn about vectors and matrices. Next, we'll study analytic geometry in three dimensions and partial derivatives.

Then we will investigate several of the many possible applications which combine the forces of algebra and calculus, including extrema determination and constrained optimization problems.

In the last part of the course we'll study multiple integrals, and discuss applications to probability.

FINAL EXAM

Some modification of the above schedule may take place depending on the pace of the course.

Academic Honesty:

The university guidelines, as stated in the student handbook, will be applied to ensure academic honesty.

Exams:

There will be three 50 minute tests and one (three hour) comprehensive final exam.
Make-ups for the tests will be given only for legitimate reasons (e.g. documented  illness, family emergency, or University-sponsored trips). Permission to take a make-up can be obtained only from your instructor, not your TA.

Final Date:

December 13, 8:30-11:30 am.

Homework and Quizzes:

There will be weekly homework assignments posted on  the homework web page on  Tuesdays, and on (each) Thursday of the following week there  will be a quiz (based on the homework). (Homework will NOT be collected.)
In addition, we will have pop quizzes, given at various times during recitation or lecture. Your four lowest quiz scores or missed quizzes will be dropped.

Make-ups for the quizzes will be given only for legitimate reasons (e.g. documented  illness, family emergency, or University-sponsored trips). Permission to take a make-up HAVE to be obtained from your instructor and your TA.

Grades:

Your midsemester grade will be based on your performance in Test 1.

Your final course grade will be determined using the following weights:
