Web HW registration and instructions

First you need to register. Please do the following in order:
  1. Open Internet Explorer browser on a Windows machine
  2. Go to the Ilrn web site (http://www.ilrn.com)
  3. Click on New Users, "Create an Account" found on the left
  4. Select Student
  5. Location: Pennsylvania. "School Name:" Carnegie-Mellon University (Pittsburgh, PA)
  6. Select "Course Key"
  7. In the "Content or Course Access Code" enter E-57DZHX4JXG5S7 (All letters are CAPITALS, the E comes first, then the rest, they supply the hyphen. You may want to just cut and paste this part.).
  8. Account Information: Fill in the information. Please use your cmu e-mail address and your given name (no nicknames). I'll need to be able to identify you so that you get credit for the homework.
  9. Enter requested information. Please use the default username assigned to you by the system, which is your e-mail address. Remember your username/password - write them down and don't lose them - once entered you'll use this throughout the course!
  10. Click on "Submit". You should now be registered. Enter the site, and click on Courses. Your addignments should be present.

Remarks:

  1. Do NOT forget your username/password. I can't recover this for you.
  2. It is possible to use a different browser or operating system. However, your experience may not be as stable. See the system requirements link on the web site for complete details.
  3. You'll have one chance at each problem.
  4. You may use any resource you want while doing the problems - notes, texts, calculators, etc. You may work with other students if you wish. Please note - for many problems, the numbers involved are algorithmically generated, so it's unlikely that you'll get exactly the same problem.
  5. Should you be disconnected while taking an assignment, you should be able to return and begin where you left off. But this has been known to fail at times.
  6. Occasionally (but not often) a server crashes or is shut down for upgrades. Should there be a significant problem that prevents you from taking an assignment, e-mail me and I'll investigate.
  7. Do NOT forget your username/password!!!!

Good luck!
