Abstract: The Ambrosio-Tortorelli approximation scheme with weighted underlying metric is investigated. It is shown that it $\Gamma$-converges to a Mumford-Shah image segmentation functional depending on the weight ${\omega} dx $, where $\omega$ ${\in} SBV $ ($\Omega$), and on its value ${\omega}^-$.
